Wagner Flexio 590 Paint Sprayer is a complete electric paint sprayer kit ideal for your home painting projects. It can be used on a variety of surfaces and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor jobs. The user-friendliness and fantastic coverage of the Flexio 590 makes it the go-to tool for all your painting jobs.

If you have ever done a painting job before, you will know how much of a pain painting with rollers and a brush can be. In our Wagner Flexio 590 review, we hope to show you that this is a decent piece of equipment for a great price and once you see how much time and effort it saves you, you won’t look back.

The handheld Wagner sprayer comes with X-Boost Turbine technology which allows you to adjust the level of air power. Using the X-Boost power dial, you can cover up to a 6-ft x 6-ft area in just 2 minutes.

The Wagner Flexio 590 HLVP paint sprayer is 50% quieter and 20% lighter than traditional airless sprayers. You can adjust the spray pattern to either horizontal or vertical with a simple turn, paint wide or narrow strokes, spray all unthinned material with the iSpray nozzle for a roller-like finish on large projects and spray thinned materials using the Detail Finish nozzle for a smoother finish on detail projects. These features among many others and its patented technologies distinguish it from other conventional paint sprayers.

Features of the Wagner Flexio 590

The Flexio 590 feels and works like new even after several jobs. The kit comes with two spray heads. The smaller one is perfect for smaller painting with finer nozzle control, while the larger head paints large surfaces quickly.

It would be fair to say that the sprayer comes with some of the most amazing features that make the Wagner 590 a must-have for home painting. Some of its noteworthy features are as follows :

          Detail Finish Nozzle

The detail finish nozzle is what makes the Flexio 590 different and ideal for detail projects and finer finishes. Designed for thinner materials, such as oil based stains and paints, it does not support thick materials. The detail finish nozzle leaves a smoother finish.

          The Wagner X-Boost technology diagram

The X-Boost power dial adjusts the level of air power produced by the turbine which allows for faster coverage and smoother finish, especially with thicker materials. The Flexio 590 is equipped with a variable speed air power control (1-9).

Low air power results in larger drops being sprayed from the gun. This gives a rougher finish.

          Material Flow Control

This sprayer has a knob on the cap of the gun. You can set the material flow by turning the knob. The material flow control controls the amount of material that is sprayed from the gun.

For thicker materials, it is recommended you start with the maximum material flow setting and then decrease the flow accordingly.

For thinner materials, you should gradually move upwards from the minimum material flow setting to suit your spraying needs.

You should test the flow on a scrap piece of wood or cardboard for desired results.

          iSpray Nozzle

The iSpray nozzle allows for a roller-like finish and sprays unthinned-materials including un-thinned latex. It also results in 60% more airflow compared to other hand-held sprayers in the market.

You can set the spray width with the spray width level on the iSpray nozzle. A wide pattern is ideal for coating large surfaces while a narrow pattern is suitable for coating smaller areas, corners and edges.

          User Friendly

The Wagner 590 is easy to use. A quick look at the instruction manual will turn you into a pro. Cleaning the nozzles are a piece of cake. Just remember to use the appropriate cleaning solutions and unplug the tool.

The spray nozzle gives your painting job a professional touch. It is worthy to note the time and effort you save considering that this sprayer paints up to 8 gallons an hour and covers an 8’ x 10’ surface in one to five minutes.

          Two-Stage Trigger

The trigger when pulled halfway, starts the engine and when pulled the full way back sprays the paint. This allows for a nice prep time for you and total control.

Do note that for an even coating, move from side to side. Fanning is not recommended.

These turbine driven sprayers create almost no overspray and it is 50% quieter than a buzz gun. The Flexio 590 has enough power to handle large outdoor projects like decks, fences and sidings.

Wagner also fixed the least favorite job – cleaning the parts. The Flexio is so easy to clean and reassemble, we think a child could do it.

          Setup… Simple as 1, 2 3

Setting up the Wagner Flexio 590 paint sprayer is a piece of cake. Before you begin, make sure not to point the spray gun at any part of the body. Also, it’s recommended you unplug the power cord just in case.

Start by inserting the suction tube into the intake opening. If you are going to be spraying downwards, aim the tube towards the front of the gun. If you are going to be spraying upwards, the angled end of the tube should be aimed towards the rear of the gun. Ensure a tight fit.

Twist the cup back onto the nozzle assembly carefully and tighten it. Match the arrow on the nozzle with the “unlock” symbol on the turbine. Insert and turn the nozzle into the turbine toward the “lock” symbol on the turbine. Follow the same steps for the iSpray or detail nozzle.

Set the controls as per your project requirements. Don’t forget to practice a bit with your control settings to get a feel of things.

If you are unsure about anything, be sure to refer the Assembly section in the Owner’s Manual.

          Cleaning the Flexio Range

Cleaning up a Flexio 590 is a walk in the park. Before cleaning, make sure that you are using the appropriate cleaning solution.  It is recommended using  warm, soapy material for latex materials and mineral spirits for oil-based materials.

First, unplug the sprayer before you start. Loosen the material container by a half turn but do not remove it. Then, unscrew the container and remove it. Put any leftover material back into the material container.

Next, put a little amount of appropriate cleaning solution into the cup. Attach the cup to the nozzle. Plug in the sprayer. Then, spray the cleaning solution.

If you have cleaned the sprayer using mineral spirits, redo the cleaning process using warm, soapy water.

To clean the nozzle, remove it from the turbine and wipe the exterior of the cup and nozzle until clean. To clean the iSpray nozzle, separate the adjustment ring from the connecting nut. Then remove all the parts and clean with a cleaning brush and appropriate cleaning solution. The cleaning procedure for a detail finish nozzle is similar. You have to unscrew the nut, removing the air cap and nozzle. Remove the parts and clean with a cleaning brush and appropriate solution

Don’t forget to lubricate the O-ring with a thin layer of petroleum jelly.

For further directions, you can have a look at the Owner’s Manual.

I have rented professional grade paint sprayers at $100 a day, but the Wagner Flexio 590 offers the same quality at a similar cost. The only downside to this is that I had to cover my surroundings when painting indoors. I hope this review was of benefit to you.
